So how DO you get out of the Valley of Despair?

Sometimes ladies just need to hear the truth.   #harshbutfair

If you like the softly softly approach, and truth bombs make you want to run a mile, please DON'T read on…

I told you yesterday about the 'Valley of Despair".

The place you get to after you have your uninformed optimism from signing up for the latest summer celebrity wonder diet.

Which quickly becomes informed pessimism when you realise you actually have to do some work to get the results you want, and this latest diet you have signed up for isn't a magic pill.

Then you hit the valley of despair.

You go one of two ways here...

'Quit and Repeat' the above process OVER and OVER again, just with another new diet each time.

Or

You CHANGE.

But here’s the thing..

ONLY WHEN THE PAIN OF STAYING THE SAME...

BECOMES MORE PAINFUL THAN THE PAIN OF CHANGE...

WILL CHANGE HAPPEN.

Only then will you make decisions NOT based on 'how you feel', but on what you are committed to achieving.

You have to get out of your COMFORT ZONE to get it though.

That’s all great 'theory' about pushing through the valley of despair, but what can you do, PRACTICALLY, to actually get through it and onto the next phase...

INFORMED OPTIMISM

You REALLY want 'it'.     Anyone and everyone says that.

But only your DAILY ACTIONS will predict your future.

And that's what it comes down to.

It’s not about striving for perfection.

It’s about striving for CONSISTENCY.

Making good food choices DAILY.

NOT eating rubbish foods, when there is a better option.

Committing to getting out of your comfort zone with some exercise REGULARLY.

Even if it is just 10 minutes.

Detach from the outcome - ladies get SO worked up about the end result.

Learn from the process you're going through.

If you've tried something and it isn't working, change it.

Failure is good. You think about it. You learn from it.

If you always give up when you start a diet on your own...

JOIN A GROUP THAT HAS ACCOUNTABILITY.

If you buy a diet book and start reading it once but never open it again, or never get around to reading it at all...

FIND A PROGRAM THAT HAS DAILY EMAILS/DRIP FEEDS INFORMATION TO YOU.

If you are tired of the endless cycle of starting a new diet, joining a random exercise class...

LEARN NEW DAILY HABITS THAT WILL ELIMINATE THE NEED TO EVER DO THIS AGAIN.

With new daily habits and consistency comes RESULTS.

The ones you crave at this time of year...every year.

The 'holy grail' of the CYCLE OF CHANGE is this...

SUCCESS AND FULFILMENT

This is what NO ONE talks about with a new diet or exercise program...

SCORING. RECORDING.

Keeping score is the essence of every successful 'change'.

How do you know if you are winning if you don't keep score?

How do you know what food is causing your bloating and lethargy if you are not tracking and 'tweaking' your nutrition?

Lack of scoring = MORE RATIONALISATION about why you failed again.

Why you turned back at the valley of despair and didn't push on...

This happened recently...

I had a lady join the Zig Zag 8 Week Forever Kick Start Challenge.  She told me how desperate she was to lose weight, get fit for the benefit of her health, to be able to run around with her children, to be able to go on holiday without feeling super self conscious.  She had tried every diet under the sun.

But... she wouldn't take her measurements and photos. She couldn’t bring herself to ask her partner to record her inches and she certainly couldn’t stand there whilst he took her photo in her swim suit.

We had a chat:

"What is more painful... the pain of taking the photos or the pain of not being able to run around with your daughter?

Something HAD to change for her, She had to get out of her comfort zone, or she would have just kept quitting and turning back.

She not only took the photos and measurements but also submitted them to me (confidentially, of course).

She lost 10 inches... in 28 Days. ( AND she’s still loosing..)

How did she do this?

  • Daily contact
  • Learned to develop GOOD DAILY HABITS
  • Focused on consistency in what she was doing
  • She didn't do it alone.
  • Accountability.

Does the program you are following this do all of this?
